"Green" Initiatives

Milton Canada Day is moving towards a zero waste future.

The Milton Canada Day Committee is committed to hosting an environmentally friendly event to minimize our environmental footprint.   In order to achieve this goal, event organizers are developing an action plan to be implemented in stages.

Over the past 5 years the Milton Canada Day Committee has been working hard to reduce waste at its event at the Milton Fairgrounds through the three R's (reducing, reusing, recycling). In 2013, a ban was placed on vendors using Styrofoam containers which go in the garbage. With sponsorship from Halton Region for our recycling and composting efforts, we diverted 42% of materials from the landfill. The committee is moving Milton Canada Day towards zero waste. To accomplish this requires more waste reduction workers. Interested volunteers should submit their name on the website to sign up.

Please continue to help us with our "Going Green" efforts by:

  • Coming to the Milton Fairgrounds by walking, bicycling (bring your lock), carpooling or taking the Free Milton Transit Shuttle
  • Following the instructions on signs at each waste sorting station for placing garbage, organics and recycling in the proper containers, or ask one of our Green Team volunteers for assistance.
  • Volunteering as a member of the Green Team
  • Don't be a litterbug.
